This material is quite easily molded and provides very good light transmission. But such windscreens were not strong enough for snowmobiles, in addition, acrylic glass with a sharp impact can break and form sharp fragments, which increases the likelihood of injury during a coup or a frontal impact. It is even easier to handle, extremely resilient, durable and transparent. But this material has its drawbacks: firstly, it degrades quickly enough in bright sunlight and becomes even more fragile than acrylic, and secondly, it has a low temperature of plastic deformation and when stored in a case in the summer, the snowmobile can bend simply under the weight of the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Polycarbonate windshields. The best  material for windshields<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, at present, monolithic polycarbonate, molded or cast, is used for the manufacture of glasses. This is the most durable of the known transparent plastics. It is used to make caps of military aircraft and police shields, vandal-resistant windows and hockey protective visors. 6 mm sheet of polycarbonate stops a bullet flying at a speed of 825 meters per second, from 10 meters. A sheet with a thickness of only 2 mm cannot be broken with a hammer. Greater thicknesses are only needed to give more shape retention on fast rides when the wind load becomes too high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Polycarbonate. Pros and cons<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Windshields made of 2 mm monolithic polycarbonate thick are able to withstand a snowmobile overturn, a branch blow at high speed, an ice lump from a snowmobile in front, and so on. Polycarbonate is resistant to frost and retains its properties up to -30 degrees. It also holds high temperatures, up to 100 degrees, without deforming or degrading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A small drawback of monolithic polycarbonate windshields is the low strength of the surface UV layer.
